The air, once thick with the Architect’s pronouncements, now thinned, carrying instead the murmur of a thousand thawing rivers. For years, his voice had been the only one that truly mattered, a booming echo in the halls of power, a silken whisper in the ears of the compliant. But now, the symphony of dissent, long suppressed, was finding its pitch, a resonant hum that vibrated through the very stones of the crumbling citadel.

The Architect, ensconced within his fortress, had grown deaf to the currents outside, insulated by the sycophancy that had become his air supply. His pronouncements of destiny, of an entitlement bestowed by some celestial decree, now sounded hollow, like the pronouncements of a king whose crown was fashioned from brittle glass.
