The air crackled, not with the usual tension that hummed between Anna and me, but with something far more primal, far more dangerous. Silas’s men, their faces a mask of grim determination and barely concealed fear, had cornered us. Their torches cast dancing shadows that twisted the familiar sanctuary of the temple grounds into something monstrous. Anna stood beside me, her small frame a beacon of unwavering courage against the encroaching darkness, but even her light couldn't entirely banish the wolf that stirred within me.

Silas, a sneer twisting his lips, stepped forward, his eyes fixed on me with a predatory glint. "The beast," he spat, the word a curse. "It has finally shown its true face."

My knuckles were white, my breath coming in ragged gasps. Every instinct screamed at me to lash out, to tear them all to shreds, but Anna’s hand, small and warm, rested on my arm. Her touch was an anchor, a silent plea that warred with the bloodlust that was beginning to surge.
