The air in the labyrinth was thick, cloying, like the scent of damp earth after a storm, but without the cleansing freshness. It clung to my skin, a constant reminder of where I was, and more importantly, what I had become. The stone walls, slick with an unidentifiable slime, seemed to press in, an endless series of dead ends and echoing passages. Each turn brought the same suffocating sameness, a maddening repetition that mirrored the cycle I was trapped in.

The full moon, a phantom limb of the sky I could no longer see, pulsed a silent rhythm in my veins. It was a constant thrum, a low growl that vibrated beneath my skin, urging me, always urging me. Hunger. It gnawed at my insides, a rabid beast that clawed at the edges of my sanity. It was a hunger that went beyond the physical, a gnawing emptiness that craved something I could no longer name, something lost in the ruins of Peter.

Beside me, a shadow moved, a ripple in the gloom. Clara. Even in this hell, she was still Clara. Or, what was left of her. The massive wolf, her fur the color of midnight, padded silently, her golden eyes, once filled with a soft, loving light, now burned with an untamed fire. She moved with a predator’s grace, a stark contrast to the clumsy, desperate creature I was becoming. My own limbs felt heavy, unwieldy, my senses a chaotic symphony of scents and sounds that overwhelmed me.
