The villa was silent after Isabetta’s departure. The morning light poured through the tall windows, casting long shadows across the marble floor. I stood by the chaise, my bare left foot still tingling, the ghost of the vision clinging to my skin.
Luca moved to the window, his back to me. “You let her take the sandal. You gave her the only advantage we had.”
“I gave her a trap,” I said. “She thinks she has both. But she doesn’t know what I saw.”
