The hum of the Pocket dimension, usually a comforting thrum of contained power, now felt like a held breath. On the main holo-screen, the image of Station Theta-X flickered, then dissolved into a chaotic swirl of static and dying light. The distress signal, a desperate plea from the edge of known space, had been the only sound for minutes, a haunting echo of the void they thought they had finally vanquished.
Shift—Malik—stood on the observation deck, the sleek, obsidian armor of his symbiote form shimmering faintly. His gaze was fixed on the fractured image, his jaw tight. Echo pulsed within him, a low, resonant hum that mirrored the unease radiating from the team. They had faced the Void, had seen its ultimate form, and had, by all accounts, erased it. Yet, the signal… it spoke of something else. Something just as hungry, just as destructive, but with a different signature.
“Station Theta-X,” Kareem said, his voice tight as he tapped furiously at his console. “Deep-space research outpost. Specialized in interdimensional physics. They were mapping anomalies near the Kepler-186 system.” He swiped a hand across his brow. “The signal cut off abruptly. Whatever hit them… it was fast.”
