A Father's Promise
Shift visits Nia, sensing her growing connection to the Void's influence. He reaffirms his promise to protect her, but realizes the threat may require more than just physical strength.
The battlefield was a canvas of ruin. What had been a city, a vibrant tapestry of steel and glass, was now a cratered expanse, a monument to a battle fought and won. Ash swirled in phantom eddies where buildings once stood, and the air itself seemed to hum with the lingering resonance of unleashed power. Shift, or rather, Malik, knelt at the epicenter, his armor flaking away like dead skin, revealing the bruised and battered body beneath. Echo, his symbiote, pulsed weakly, its once vibrant blue light now a flickering ember.
Kareem was the first to reach him, his own exo-suit scuffed but functional. He offered a hand, his expression a mixture of relief and exhaustion. “You good?”
Malik took the offered hand, his grip surprisingly firm. He managed a weak smile, the kind that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Never better.”
