Stars and Sweet Dreams
Safe and warm in her mother's arms, Cia watched the bright stars from her window. She promised to be more careful, dreaming of cuddles and the comforting scent of home.
The final rays of the sun painted the sky in hues of orange and purple as Mother Cat and I finally padded through our familiar garden gate. Home. The word itself felt like a warm blanket wrapping around me, chasing away the last lingering shivers of fear. My little legs, so tired from my grand adventure, felt a little wobbly, but Mother’s steady presence beside me was all the support I needed. She nudged me gently towards the door, her purr a rumbling, comforting sound against my fur.
Inside, the air was thick with the comforting scent of dried herbs and the faint, sweet smell of milk. It was the smell of safety, the smell of *us*. I padded over to my favorite spot by the window, the one that overlooked the meadow where I’d gotten myself so wonderfully, terrifyingly lost. Mother followed, her tail giving a soft swish as she settled beside me.
The world outside was transforming. The last blush of sunset was fading, giving way to the deep indigo of twilight. And then, one by one, they began to appear. Tiny pinpricks of light, scattered across the vast, inky canvas. Stars. I’d seen them before, of course, but never like this. Tonight, they seemed to shimmer with a special kind of magic, like a million tiny diamonds sprinkled by a giant, gentle hand.
