Chapter 6
A Goblin's Game
Deep in the shadowed woods, a mischievous goblin named Gribble delights in spreading rumors. He weaves tales of betrayal, unaware of the profound impact his 'game' has on the kingdom.
Deep within the Whispering Woods, where ancient trees tangled their branches like gnarled fingers and sunlight dappled the mossy ground in shifting patterns, lived a creature of pure mischief. His name was Gribble, and his greatest joy was the sound of fear. He wasn’t a big goblin, nor a particularly strong one, but his mind was a whirlwind of cunning and his voice, when he chose to use it, could twist the truth into a knot that even the wisest of owls would struggle to untangle.
Gribble perched on a toadstool, a grin stretching across his pointed face, his beady eyes glinting with amusement. He’d seen the king, Theron, a figure once so full of laughter and warmth, now pacing his throne room like a caged lion. And Gribble, with his peculiar brand of goblin entertainment, had decided to have some fun.
He’d started small, a whisper carried on the wind to a lonely shepherd on the plains. “The King… he plans to tax the clouds!” The shepherd, a simple man, had blinked, then hurried to the village, his eyes wide with alarm. From there, the rumor had taken flight, like a flock of startled starlings, spreading and morphing with each retelling. Gribble, hidden amongst the rustling leaves, would cackle softly as he heard the whispers carried back by the breeze.
