Confronting Chaos

Sir Kael confronts Gribble. The goblin, initially amused, is taken aback by the knight's earnestness and the real-world consequences of his mischief.

Sir Kael’s heart pounded a rhythm against his ribs like a frantic drum. The air in the goblin’s lair was thick with the scent of damp earth and something vaguely like burnt sugar, a peculiar combination that did little to calm his nerves. He had followed the winding tunnels, guided by a faint, almost imperceptible trail of discarded nutshells and the occasional glint of something shiny, until he stood before a cavern lit by sputtering, moss-covered fungi. In the center, hunched over a collection of mismatched trinkets, was Gribble.

The goblin, a creature of knobby knees and perpetually grimy fingers, looked up, his beady eyes widening slightly. A wide, toothy grin stretched across his face, revealing a surprising number of yellowed fangs. "Well, well, what have we here? A shiny knight in my humble abode! Come to admire my treasures?" His voice was a raspy whisper, like dry leaves skittering across stone.

Kael drew himself up, his polished armor gleaming dully in the fungal light. He held his sword, not threateningly, but as a symbol of his purpose. "I am Sir Kael of Eldoria, and I have come to speak with you about the whispers."
