But the echoes of his past, the Demon King's past, refused to be silenced. They manifested in the terrified cries of villagers, the clang of steel against flesh, and the chilling, triumphant laughter of King Emmatos.
Robby stood on a windswept hill overlooking the smoldering ruins of Oakhaven. Smoke, thick and acrid, billowed into the bruised twilight sky, painting the clouds in shades of ash and despair. Below, the once-vibrant village was a charnel house. Emmatos's soldiers, clad in their obsidian armor, moved with brutal efficiency, their swords still dripping with the lifeblood of innocents. Women wept over fallen husbands and children, their pleas swallowed by the general cacophony of destruction.
He had heard the rumors, of course. A few weeks prior, a lone traveler had stumbled into his secluded cabin, his eyes wide with terror, babbling about a king with eyes of ice and a heart of stone, a king who carved a path of ruin wherever he went. Robby had dismissed it as the ramblings of a traumatized soul, another casualty of the cruel world. But then came the whispers from the nearby hamlets, tales of a relentless hunt, of a king seeking something, or someone, with a terrifying fervor. And now, Oakhaven.
