The air in the abandoned server farm crackled, not with the hum of active processors, but with the volatile energy of Aetheria bleeding into reality. Dust motes danced in the single beam of moonlight piercing the grime-streaked window, each particle seeming to shimmer with an unnatural, digital luminescence. Alex, known to the world as OP2F63, felt it too, a low thrumming beneath his skin, a constant reminder that the lines between his avatar and himself were becoming as blurred as the static on a dying screen.
Beside him, vanlamb was a silhouette against the decaying machinery, their movements fluid and unsettlingly silent. They’d been brought together by a desperate necessity, two unlikely pieces on a chessboard where the board itself was unraveling. Alex had learned to expect the unexpected from vanlamb, but today, a gnawing unease settled in his gut. ZGQdcrG’s forces had been closing in, their digital tendrils reaching for the very core of Aetheria, and vanlamb’s latest maneuver had been… too easy.
“You led them into that trap,” Alex stated, his voice flat, devoid of accusation but heavy with suspicion. He watched vanlamb’s reflection in a shattered monitor screen.
