Alex manages to momentarily push the key into reality within his dream. He sees a breathtaking, alien landscape, confirming the existence of the world beyond.
The air in my dream was thick, like breathing in velvet. It always was. But tonight, something felt different. The usual velvety darkness that swirled around me, the same darkness that cradled the whispered promises of forgotten places, seemed to thin. It was as if a curtain, heavy and embroidered with starlight, was being pulled back, not by me, but by something else. And in my hand, the key—the ornate, impossibly heavy key I’d found in my room—felt strangely warm, humming with an energy that vibrated up my arm.
I’d been holding it, clutching it, for what felt like an eternity in this dream-space. It was my anchor, my only solid possession in a world of shifting sands and phantom whispers. But tonight, the key wasn’t just an anchor. It felt like a tool. An active thing.
In the dream, I was standing on what felt like a precipice. Below me, not the familiar, comforting darkness, but a swirling, phosphorescent mist. And the key in my hand… it was pulsing. A faint, golden light emanated from its intricate carvings, a light that seemed to push against the dream’s fabric.
