The air in the dream was thick, heavy with the scent of damp earth and something else, something metallic and sharp, like ozone before a storm. I stood on ground that felt unnervingly solid, though it shimmered with an internal light, like a thousand trapped fireflies beneath a layer of polished obsidian. Towering, skeletal trees clawed at a bruised-purple sky, their branches laced with threads of silver that pulsed with a faint, rhythmic glow. This was the place. The place from my dreams, the one that had started to bleed into my waking hours, leaving me disoriented and breathless.

And there, in the center of the clearing, was the figure. It was taller than I’d imagined, its form a shifting silhouette against the dim light, cloaked in shadows that seemed to writhe and whisper. I couldn't make out a face, only the impression of eyes, two points of cold, intelligent light that fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. The key, cool and solid, rested in my palm, a familiar weight that somehow felt both reassuring and terrifying in this alien landscape.

“You have come,” the voice echoed, not from a mouth, but from everywhere at once, a low hum that vibrated in my bones. It was the voice from my dreams, the one that had offered so little and yet so much.
