Chapter 7
A New Horizon: Jax embraces his role as the kangaroo's keeper, finding purpose and a sense of home.
The morning sun, a shy blush on the horizon, painted the dusty yard of the sanctuary in hues of rose and gold. Jax, his usual morning grumble a low rumble in his chest, hefted a bucket of feed. Jax watched, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Pip was a creature of habit, a small, furry clockwork that ran on milk and the steady presence of his keeper. It had started as a chore, a duty assigned to the new groundskeeper, but somewhere along the line, it had morphed into something else. A responsibility, yes, but also… a comfort. Pip’s unwavering trust was a rare commodity, and Jax found himself hoarding it like a squirrel hoarding acorns.
