Chapter 14
The Path to Reconciliation
Aisha and Debby begin to tentatively reach out. They acknowledge their mistakes and the pressures they faced. Understanding slowly replaces resentment as they share their hidden fears.
The air in the dormitory common room was thick with the unspoken, a heavy blanket draped over the usual boisterous energy. Aisha sat by the window, tracing patterns on the condensation with a fingertip, her gaze lost somewhere beyond the dripping leaves of the acacia tree outside. He’d seen the flicker of pain in Aisha’s eyes when he’d mentioned Debby’s latest academic triumph, and the defensive set of Debby’s jaw when Aisha had quietly excelled in a practical demonstration. He knew, with a sigh, that this was a battle they had to fight, or rather, navigate, on their own.
