The crisp morning air of Lagos, usually a balm to Chinedu’s soul, felt decidedly… buzzy. Not the pleasant hum of an early market day, but the agitated thrum of a thousand invisible notifications demanding his attention. His Nokia 3310, nestled in his breast pocket like a loyal, unyielding comrade, remained serenely silent. It was a stark contrast to the cacophony of chirps, pings, and vibrations that emanated from every other pocket, bag, and wrist within his orbit.
Today’s particular brand of digital madness began with a frantic call from his cousin, Funmi. Her voice, usually a melodic lilt, was stretched taut with panic. "Chinedu! Chinedu, have you seen it?"
Chinedu, mid-sip of his steaming garri, paused. "Seen what, Funmi? The sun rising? Because yes, it’s doing its usual thing."
