The embers of the hearth pulsed like a wounded heart, casting long, dancing shadows that stretched and contorted across the stone walls of the Prince’s chamber. Outside, the wind, a relentless mourner, keened through the skeletal branches of ancient oaks, its lament a mournful counterpoint to the heavy silence within.
