Chapter 9 — The Weight of Waking

Aldren wakes in Kayline's bed for the first time, and the morning reveals the quiet aftermath of their surrender. The house responds to Aldren's new status as a permanent resident — the leather shutters loosen slightly, the kitchen hearth warms without being lit, and a door that was previously locked now stands open.
