John's Vision of Truth

The dust of Jerusalem still clung to our sandals, a constant reminder of the city that had witnessed both our greatest joys and our deepest sorrows. But now, a different kind of dust settled upon us – the quiet contemplation that followed the fiery descent of the Spirit at Pentecost. We had been scattered, a flock without a shepherd, our hearts heavy with the weight of Jesus’ ascension. The world, though, remained a vast, indifferent canvas, and our message, though burning within us, was met with the same stone walls of disbelief and outright hostility we’d faced before. We were His witnesses, His hands, His feet in a world that desperately needed His touch.

He was always the quiet one, the one who lingered by Jesus’ side, not with the boisterous pronouncements of a zealous follower like myself, but with a profound stillness, as if he were absorbing the very essence of our Master’s being. While the rest of us were busy with the practicalities – finding food, securing a place to meet, tending to the sick and the broken – John would often be found apart, his gaze lost in the distance, his brow furrowed in thought. He carried a sorrow, a deep, unspoken grief that I, even as his closest friend among the Twelve, could only glimpse.
