Mei First Spy Day!
Mei meets up with her science teacher Mr Thomas teach her how to be a Spy and she finally helps out with the first case
The sun, a benevolent, buttery yolk, spilled over the rooftops of Maplewood Lane, painting the dew-kissed lawns in hues of soft gold. For Mei Child, however, the dawn wasn't just about the arrival of a new day; it was the official commencement of her illustrious career as a spy. Today was her First Spy Day, a designation she had meticulously crafted in her mind, complete with a mental fanfare and a crisp, imaginary salute. Her loyal, if somewhat lumpy, teddy bear, Barnaby, perched on her pillow, seemed to nod in agreement. *He knows*, Mei thought, a thrill zinging through her. *Barnaby always knows when I’m about to do something brilliant.*
She leaped out of bed, a small whirlwind of determined energy, her striped pajamas a blur against the sunlit room. Her mission: to absorb the wisdom of the neighborhood's most esteemed (and, in Mei’s opinion, possibly most misunderstood) figure of authority – Mr. Thomas, her science teacher. Mr. Thomas, with his perpetually furrowed brow and his legendary prize-winning tomatoes, was, according to Barnaby’s silent pronouncements, the perfect mentor for a budding espionage expert.
The walk to Mr. Thomas’s house was a strategic reconnaissance mission. Every rustle in the leaves, every distant dog bark, every shadow that stretched too long was cataloged, analyzed, and filed away in Mei’s mental dossier. Kelly, her best friend and designated (though often bewildered) assistant, trailed a few paces behind, her practical nature a comforting anchor to Mei’s soaring imagination.
