The air in Tony’s study crackled, not with the controlled energy of a spell, but with the chaotic residue of unspoken secrets. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of moonlight that pierced the gloom, illuminating a landscape of overflowing bookshelves and arcane curiosities. I leaned against a rickety table, the wood groaning under my weight, my heart a frantic drum against my ribs. Tony, perched on a stool that looked as ancient as the spells he invoked, swirled a viscous, opalescent liquid in a crystal goblet. His eyes, pools of amused mystery, met mine.
"So, the prodigal son returns," he purred, his voice a silken caress laced with something far more dangerous. "And with such a storm brewing around him. Quite the spectacle, Kael. Quite the spectacle indeed."
I ignored the taunt, the familiar urge to lash out warring with the gnawing need for answers. "You said you had information. About my lineage. About the Obsidian Hand."
