The air crackled, not with the residual energy of battle, but with a stillness that was far more unnerving. It was the silence that followed a storm, the pregnant pause before the next, inevitable tempest. My own breath felt too loud in my ears, a ragged testament to the inferno I’d just weathered. Daved’s forces, the iron fist of the Obsidian Order, had been shattered, their dogma reduced to ash and their leader to a fleeting, defeated shadow. Yet, victory tasted like grit and regret.

Ryan stood beside me, her usual guarded expression softened by a weary relief. Her hands, still stained with the faint shimmer of protective wards, rested on her knees. She looked older, etched with the same exhaustion that clung to me like a shroud. Tony, perched on a pile of rubble that had once been a grand archway, was idly juggling three spectral orbs, his face a mask of amused detachment. He’d been the wild card, the unpredictable force that had, in his own twisted way, tipped the scales.

"So," Ryan’s voice was raspy, "that's that, then?"
