The air in the hidden chamber crackled, not with the usual arcane hum of stored magic, but with a raw, volatile energy that felt like it was ripped from the fabric of reality itself. It clung to me, a second skin of dread and power, a constant thrumming beneath my ribs that whispered of things I wasn't meant to know, things I wasn't meant to *be*. The memory of the alley, the unnatural chill that had swept through the terrified bystanders, the way the very shadows had writhed as my anger surged, was seared into my mind. It wasn't just power; it was *hunger*.
