The air in the abandoned observatory crackled, not with the usual static of dust motes dancing in starlight, but with a raw, untamed energy that vibrated in my bones. It was a sensation I was becoming all too familiar with, this humming under my skin that promised both destruction and, if I dared to believe it, a terrifying kind of power. Daved stood silhouetted against the shattered dome, a figure carved from shadow and conviction. His presence was a physical weight, pressing down on me, on the very air I breathed.
"Anomalous," he stated, the word falling like a stone into the silence. It wasn't a question, but a pronouncement. His voice, surprisingly smooth, held an edge of something that went beyond mere disapproval. It was a chilling certainty, a judgment already passed.
I tightened my grip on the rusted railing, the cold metal a grounding anchor against the tempest brewing within me. "What do you want?" I managed, the question raspy. My throat felt tight, as if something clawed at it from the inside.
