The hum of the Odyssey’s auxiliary generators was a thin, reedy sound against the vast, unsettling silence. Outside, the sea lay like a sheet of hammered pewter, unnaturally still, reflecting a sky of the same featureless grey. The storm had vanished, leaving behind a void where the familiar blue of the Atlantic should have been. Dr. Thorne, his usual sharp features drawn tight with a weariness that went beyond mere fatigue, stood on the bridge, staring at the dead screens. Lena Hanson, her hands still smudged with grease from her frantic repairs, joined him, holding a data pad.
“Anything?” Thorne’s voice was rough.
Lena shook her head, her gaze fixed on the pad. “Nothing. It’s like… like everything just stopped. No GPS signal, no satellite link, not even the inertial navigation is giving us a bearing. It’s as if the Triangle itself has swallowed our connection to the rest of the world.” She tapped the screen. “But the logs… I’ve managed to piece together more. The fragmented entries from the ‘Seraphina’… they talk about… a consciousness. Not biological, but an energy. Ancient. It mentions ‘resonances’ and ‘harmonic frequencies’ that can… alter perception. Manipulate matter.”
