The air in the grand hall crackled, not with static electricity, but with a raw, visceral fury. The entity, cornered and bleeding spiritual ichor, was no longer playing games. Its presence, a suffocating miasma of rot and despair, pressed in on Liam, Maya, and Chloe, each beat of their terrified hearts a drum against the encroaching darkness. Noah stood apart, a silhouette etched against the dying embers of the fireplace, his face a mask of grim calculation.

The chanting, once a desperate plea, had devolved into a guttural snarl from Maya, her eyes blazing with a borrowed, unholy light. Liam watched her, his stomach churning. This wasn’t the Maya he knew, the one who’d spent hours poring over dusty tomes, her brow furrowed in concentration. This was something else, something consumed. He gripped the tarnished silver crucifix, its cold metal a meager comfort against the inferno raging around them.

“You think you can stop me?” The voice, a cacophony of tortured screams and guttural growls, emanated from Maya’s throat, yet it was clearly not hers. It slithered through the hall, weaving a tapestry of pure terror. “You pathetic, squirming insects. You opened the door. You invited me in.”
