Chapter 9
Justice for Eleanor
Rachel and Sarah gather the courage to reveal the true story of Eleanor's murder. They present the evidence, confronting those responsible and ensuring Eleanor's final wishes are honored. The house finally feels lighter.
The air in the living room felt thinner, less burdened. Sunlight, which had previously seemed to struggle through the grimy panes, now streamed in, illuminating dust motes dancing in a silent ballet. Rachel and Sarah sat on the sofa, the worn velvet a familiar comfort. The box of Eleanor’s belongings, once a source of dread, now rested on the coffee table, a tangible connection to the spectral resident they had come to understand. A sense of quiet purpose settled over them, a stark contrast to the frantic energy that had propelled their investigation.

Rachel squeezed her friend’s hand. “We’ve been over it a hundred times, Sarah. Every piece of evidence points to the same conclusion. Mr. Henderson… he’s been hiding something for twenty years. And it’s time for it to come out.” Rachel’s pragmatism, usually a shield against the irrational, had been forged into a weapon by their ordeal. She still felt a tremor of unease when she thought of confronting him, but the thought of Eleanor’s restless spirit finally finding peace was a stronger motivator.
