The wind howled like a mournful spirit outside my small cottage, a constant reminder of the blizzard’s fury. Crimson light bled through the frosted windowpanes, painting the snow-dusted furniture in shades of rose and deep wine. It was the Harvest Moon, heavy and swollen in the sky, its glow a beacon that both comforted and unsettled me. Tonight, the air felt different, charged with a nervous energy that prickled my skin. The encroaching darkness, a chill that seeped into the very marrow of my bones, was growing bolder. It was drawn to the moon, yes, but also to something within me, a burgeoning power I was only just beginning to understand.
A shiver, not entirely from the cold, traced its way down my spine. The whispers had been growing louder these past few nights, not just the wind’s song, but something more, something ancient and familiar. They spoke of my lineage, of a magic that flowed through my veins like glacial meltwater, powerful and untamed. I clutched my staff, its smooth wood cool against my palms, and closed my eyes, trying to focus. My magic, when it flared, was like a wild fire, beautiful and destructive, and I knew, with a certainty that settled deep in my gut, that I couldn’t face what was coming without learning to control it.
"Show me," I whispered to the empty room, my voice barely audible above the storm’s roar. "Show me how."
