The wind howled like a hungry wolf at the edges of my little cottage, each gust rattling the frosted panes of my windows. Outside, the snow was falling so thick and fast that the world had dissolved into a swirling, white canvas. The crimson moon, usually a comforting, glowing orb, seemed to hang lower tonight, its light a little dimmer, a little more anxious, as if it too felt the prickle of unease that had settled deep in my bones. It was more than just a storm; I could feel it. A cold, creeping dread that wasn’t born of winter’s bite, but of something far older, far hungrier. “I can’t keep fighting shadows I don’t understand,” I murmured, my breath misting in the cold air of my study. The ancient texts, brittle with age, lay open before me, their faded ink a testament to generations of witches who had stood where I stood now. They spoke of a place, a heart of ice and illusion, a labyrinth built by my ancestors not to trap, but to test. A place where the secrets of their lineage, and perhaps the key to controlling my own burgeoning power, lay hidden.
