The morning mist hung heavy, a soft, pearly veil clinging to the ancient oaks that guarded my little cottage. It was the kind of quiet, still morning that made the world feel brand new, brushed clean by the night. I was out in my herb garden, coaxing sleepy lavender buds with a gentle touch, when a shiver, not of cold, traced its way down my spine. It was a peculiar feeling, like a sigh breathed across the land, a subtle discord woven into the usual symphony of birdsong and rustling leaves.

Flicker, perched on a dew-kissed rosehip, tilted their head, their iridescent wings shimmering like captured rainbows. "A wrinkle in the weave, Elara," they chirped, their voice like tiny bells. "A ripple of…disquiet."

I paused, my fingers hovering over a patch of thyme. "I feel it too, Flicker. Something’s amiss." My connection to the Grimoire, and through it, to the natural world, often gave me these premonitions, these delicate nudges that something was out of sorts. It was a gift, and sometimes, a heavy responsibility.
