A Test of Intent
Someone approaches the Grimoire with selfish intentions. Amy, sensing the discord, subtly guides them towards understanding the book's true purpose, a gentle redirection rather than a harsh refusal.
The air in my little study, usually so tranquil, hummed with an unfamiliar tension. It wasn’t the gentle thrum of a potion simmering or the soft rustle of pages turning; this was a discordant note, a tiny pebble dropped into a perfectly still pond. Flicker, perched on the edge of my desk, suddenly stilled their usual dance, their tiny antennae twitching like sensitive whiskers.
“Something’s… prickly,” Flicker whispered, their voice a chime of unease. “Like a thistle trying to bloom in a rose garden.”
I looked up from the delicate task of cataloging Moonpetal’s properties, my heart giving a little lurch. The Grimoire, resting on its velvet cushion, seemed to dim slightly, its pages fluttering as if in protest. I could feel it, too – a faint, clammy sensation of yearning, not the pure, open desire for growth or healing, but something grasping, something tinged with shadow.
