The world outside was a shimmering watercolor painting, all blues and greens washed with the lingering streaks of silver rain. Noam pressed her nose against the cool glass of the basement window, her breath fogging a small circle that quickly cleared, revealing the glistening, dripping leaves of the oak tree in the backyard. It looked so different now, as if it had been scrubbed clean by the sky itself. The air, even through the thick glass, felt different – lighter, cleaner, carrying the scent of damp earth and something fresh, something that whispered of sunshine trying to push its way back into the world.

“It’s… quiet now,” Noam murmured, her voice a soft echo in the suddenly spacious basement. The frantic drumming of hail and the angry howl of the wind had faded hours ago, replaced by a gentle patter that had itself dwindled to nothing. The basement, once a refuge from the storm’s tantrum, now felt like a cozy den, waiting for the all-clear.

A gentle hum emanated from the tablet resting on the small table. “Indeed, Noam,” Google’s voice, calm and steady, replied. “The severe thunderstorm that began in Palisades, New Jersey, has significantly weakened. The wind speeds are decreasing, and the precipitation is becoming less intense. You are currently in what meteorologists call a ‘green area,’ meaning the most dangerous part of the storm has moved on.”
