Wind rattles the windows as Noam, Batya, and Grandma huddle in the basement. Noam asks Google for safety tips, feeling a mix of fear and excitement. Batya stays calm, reassuring Noam. They are safe, but the storm is loud.

The wind was a furious beast, clawing at the house, its howl a mournful song that vibrated through the very bones of the old building. Inside, the world had shrunk to the cozy, slightly musty confines of the basement. Noam, usually a whirlwind of energy, sat cross-legged on the braided rug, her bright eyes wide with a mixture of awe and a tremor of fear. Her mom, Batya, was a steady presence beside her, her hand resting on Noam’s knee, a silent anchor in the swirling chaos above. Grandma, Bubby, was perched on an overturned crate, a calming smile on her face, though Noam could see the slight crinkle of worry around her eyes.

The basement wasn’t exactly luxurious, but it was safe. A single bare bulb cast a warm, yellow glow, illuminating stacks of forgotten board games, dusty boxes filled with memories, and the sturdy, reassuring shape of the furnace. Outside, the symphony of the storm played on – the relentless drumming of rain against the small, high windows, the sharp crack of thunder that made the floorboards tremble, and that incessant, unnerving whine of the wind.

“Google,” Noam whispered, her voice barely audible above the din. She held her phone, its screen a bright beacon in the dim light, and tapped the familiar icon. A moment later, a cheerful, if slightly tinny, voice responded, “Yes, Noam? I’m here. How can I help?”
