Jhon stared at the crumbling stone, his brow furrowed in a way that suggested he was trying to wrestle a particularly stubborn badger into submission. The riddle, etched into the moss-covered surface of what looked suspiciously like a very old, very lopsided bird bath, was proving to be a formidable opponent. "I have cities, but no houses, forests, but no trees, and water, but no fish. What am I?" he mumbled, tracing the faded letters with a grimy finger. He’d tried everything he could think of. Was it a dream? A very, very detailed painting? Perhaps the universe itself, contemplating its own vastness? None of it felt right. The air in the ruins was thick with the scent of damp earth and forgotten things, a smell that usually invigorated Jhon, but today it just made him feel… stuck. He sighed, a puff of frustration that disturbed a nearby beetle. He’d hoped this whole “great awesome quest” thing would be less about staring at rocks and more about, well, awesome.

Bob, who had been patiently exploring a patch of particularly vibrant fungi a few feet away, ambled over. He had a way of moving that was both gentle and purposeful, like a cat deciding where to nap. "Still wrestling with the stone, Jhon?" he asked, his voice a warm, low hum. He tilted his head, his eyes, the color of a summer sky just before sunset, scanning the inscription.

Jhon slumped against the bird bath, the rough stone cool against his back. "It's this riddle, Bob. It’s making my brain feel like overcooked spaghetti. Cities, forests, water… but no actual stuff? It’s like a description of a really bad holiday brochure." He kicked a loose pebble, watching it skitter across the uneven ground. "I thought this was supposed to be an adventure. So far, it’s mostly just me feeling inadequate."
