The Whispering Woods

The map leads them to a dense, old forest. Strange sounds echo, and shadows dance, making Jhon feel a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation.

The bus rumbled to a halt, its brakes sighing a weary, familiar tune. Jhon, clutching the worn edges of the ancient map, felt a familiar pang of frustration. His car, bless its rusty heart, had decided that *today* was the day to stage its grand rebellion. No amount of coaxing, pleading, or even a good old-fashioned kick (which he’d resisted, mostly) had managed to coax a single spark from its engine. So, here he was, back on the bus, a mode of transport he’d long since traded for the freedom of his own four wheels. He settled into a seat near the back, the worn upholstery strangely comforting, a silent testament to countless journeys.

His eyes scanned the familiar faces, a mosaic of morning commuters lost in their own worlds of podcasts and newspaper headlines. Then, his breath hitched. Bob. Sitting just a few rows ahead, his familiar sandy hair catching the sunlight slanting through the window. Jhon’s heart did a little flutter, a tiny, rebellious bird trapped in his chest. He hadn't seen Bob on the bus in ages. Usually, it was a quick wave at the bus stop, a brief exchange about the weather, maybe a shared groan about the traffic. But today, with his car out of commission, it felt like fate had delivered him directly into Bob’s orbit.

Taking a deep breath, Jhon slid out of his seat and made his way forward. Each step felt a little too loud, a little too deliberate. "Hey, Bob," he said, his voice a little huskier than he’d intended.
