Chapter 13
The Guardian's Challenge
A strange, gentle creature appears, guarding the cave's treasure. It communicates through feelings, testing their intentions.
The old car coughed, sputtered, and then gave up the ghost with a sigh that sounded suspiciously like a dying donkey. Jhon, perched on the edge of the driver’s seat, slumped against the steering wheel. “Oh, for Pete’s sake,” he muttered, the words muffled by the worn fabric. His hands, usually so eager for the open road, felt heavy, useless. This was *not* the grand, life-altering adventure he’d been hoping for. This was just… an inconvenience. He paid his fare, the coins feeling cold and insignificant in his palm, and then, his eyes scanned the seats. And there, in the seat directly in front of him, was Bob. Bob, with his easy smile and his perpetually rumpled shirt, looking as if he’d just stepped out of a particularly pleasant dream. Jhon’s heart did a little flip, a tiny, unbidden flutter that he quickly tried to suppress.
