Jhon yanked the car door open, a protesting squeal of ancient metal echoing in the pre-dawn quiet. He slid into the driver’s seat, the familiar faded upholstery cool against his legs. He turned the key, a hopeful twist that promised the rumble of an engine, the hum of a journey. But all he got was a pathetic click, a wheezing sigh that died before it truly began. He tried again. Click. Sigh. Nothing. A frustrated groan escaped his lips, a tiny puff of defeated air. His car, his trusty, if slightly cantankerous, chariot, had decided to stage a revolt. Today of all days.

“Oh, come on!” he muttered, giving the steering wheel a gentle, yet pointed, thump. “Don’t do this to me. Not today. I’ve got… I’ve got things to do. With a sigh that was significantly heavier than his car's mechanical lament, Jhon slammed the door shut. He’d have to take the bus. The bus. The very symbol of his mundane existence, the metal beast that ferried the masses to their equally mundane destinations. It was a last resort, a concession to the unyielding reality of his situation. He grabbed his worn backpack, a silent promise of an adventure he was desperately craving, and headed towards the bus stop, his steps heavy with a familiar sense of resignation.
