Kamari traced the condensation on her lukewarm coffee cup, the sterile white of the paper mug a stark contrast to the swirling crimson in her mind. Another one. Another bright young woman, extinguished before her time, her potential snuffed out on the hallowed grounds of Spellman University. The mounting body count was a relentless drumbeat, each loss a fresh wound on the city’s conscience.
Omar, ever the steady anchor, was hunched over a stack of files, his brow furrowed in concentration. He’d been meticulously dissecting the scant evidence, searching for a pattern, a thread, anything that would lead them out of this suffocating fog. “Nothing, Kami,” he sighed, pushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. “No forced entry, no witnesses, no discernible motive. It’s like these girls are just… vanishing into thin air and reappearing as victims.”
Kamari nodded, her gaze drifting to the corkboard plastered with crime scene photos. The faces of the deceased stared back, young, vibrant, full of life.
