Omar’s fingers drummed a restless rhythm against the worn leather of his desk, a counterpoint to the low hum of the precinct’s late-night activity. The fluorescent lights overhead cast long, sterile shadows across the scattered case files, each one a testament to the gnawing emptiness of their investigation. Spellman University. The name itself had become a bitter taste in his mouth, a symbol of elusive answers and escalating dread. Kamari, perched on the edge of his desk, was tracing the outline of a coffee stain with a stray fingertip, her gaze distant.

“Anything?” he asked, the word a weary rasp.

Kamari shook her head, a faint sigh escaping her lips. “Just… static. Every lead dissolves before we can get a solid grip. It’s like chasing ghosts in a fog.” She pushed herself upright, a flicker of frustration crossing her features. “And Thorne is no help. He just keeps circling back to the usual suspects, the disgruntled students, the obvious. It’s too neat, Omar. Too clean.”
