The stale scent of old coffee and desperation clung to the air in the precinct, a familiar perfume to Kamari and Omar. Rain lashed against the precinct windows, mirroring the storm brewing inside their heads. Three bodies. Three Spellman students. Three dead ends. The city, usually a vibrant tapestry of sounds and stories, had been reduced to a suffocating silence, punctuated only by the relentless drip-drip-drip of their unanswered questions.

“Anything?” Kamari asked, her voice rough, the words scraping against the inside of her throat. She ran a hand through her short, coiled hair, the gesture a familiar sign of her mounting frustration. The case file, thick with unanswered reports and speculative notes, lay open on her desk, a monument to their collective failure.

Omar, ever the picture of calm, shook his head, his brow furrowed in concentration as he scrolled through digital reports on his monitor. “Patience, K. We’ll get there. It’s just… the pieces aren’t fitting. It’s like trying to assemble a puzzle with half the pieces missing and the other half from a different box.”
