Kamari experiences a disturbing premonition, a fleeting image that feels eerily familiar. Omar, ever the pragmatist, dismisses it as stress, but the unease lingers.
The fluorescent lights of the precinct hummed a dull, persistent tune, a soundtrack to Kamari’s mounting frustration. Another night, another dead end. The Spellman murders were a phantom, a whisper in the Atlanta night that refused to coalesce into anything tangible. She rubbed her temples, the dull ache a familiar companion these past few weeks. Omar, her twin, her shadow, her rock, was hunched over a whiteboard, his brow furrowed in concentration, a stark contrast to the chaotic swirl of her own thoughts.
“Anything?” Kamari asked, her voice raspy from disuse.
Omar didn’t look up. “Just the same damn circle, K. No forced entry, no witnesses, no motive. It’s like they materialized out of thin air and vanished just as easily.” He tapped a marker against his chin. “The MO is clean, too clean. No DNA, no fingerprints, nothing for forensics to sink their teeth into.”
