The sterile scent of the evidence room did little to cut through the cloying perfume of dread that had settled over Kamari. It clung to her skin, a phantom touch from the horrors they’d unearthed. Beside her, Omar meticulously arranged the collected items on the table, each piece a jagged shard of a shattered reality. He moved with his usual precision, a bulwark of logic against the rising tide of chaos. But even his methodical approach felt like a desperate attempt to impose order on something fundamentally broken.

“The fibers from the lab… they’re a match to the material used in the upholstery of Dr. Reed’s private study,” Omar stated, his voice level, devoid of the tremor that Kamari felt vibrating through her own bones. He tapped a small, plastic bag containing a few dark threads. “And the soil samples from the last victim’s shoes? Identical to the rare potting mix she uses for her orchids.”

Kamari nodded, her gaze fixed on a photograph of the latest victim, a young woman with eyes that still held a flicker of life, now extinguished. “It’s all there, Omar. All the breadcrumbs. We just… we didn’t want to see where they led.” Her voice was a low murmur, heavy with the weight of what she was about to say. The premonitions, the flashes of unsettling imagery that had plagued her for weeks, were no longer dismissible as stress. They had coalesced, sharpened, and now, with Omar’s irrefutable evidence, they pointed to a truth so devastating it threatened to shatter their world.
