The sterile air of the precinct office did little to dispel the growing unease that clung to Kamari like a cheap suit. Sunlight, filtered through the grimy Atlanta sky, painted stripes across Omar’s meticulous notes, each one a testament to his methodical approach. But logic, for once, felt like a flimsy shield against the storm brewing within her. The Spellman murders. Three bodies, each found in a different iconic campus location, each with a signature that screamed calculated precision, yet offered no tangible lead. It was a ghost hunt, and Kamari felt the phantom touch of something more personal with every dead end.
“Anything?” Omar’s voice, usually a steady anchor, held a flicker of frustration. He tapped a pen against a whiteboard scrawled with theories that now felt laughably inadequate.
Kamari shook her head, her gaze drifting to a framed photo of her and Omar on graduation day, their smiles wide, futures unwritten. “It’s like the killer’s a phantom. No witnesses, no forensics beyond the obvious. Just… gone.” She traced the edge of the photo with a fingertip. “And the timing… it’s too perfect. Too… deliberate.”
