Honestly, if there’s one thing I’ve learned since Arke landed (or, more accurately, crash-landed) into my life, it’s that the universe has a wicked sense of humor, and it’s particularly fond of using me as its punchline. My life, which I’d always assumed was destined for a comfortable level of beige mediocrity, had suddenly exploded into a technicolor carnival of pure, unadulterated chaos. And the ringmaster, with his ridiculously magnificent mane and perpetually bewildered expression, was currently trying to explain the intricacies of Lyran grooming habits to a flock of pigeons.

“It is of paramount importance, you feathered simpletons,” Arke enunciated, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the damp park air, “that one maintains the optimal sheen and volume. A dull mane suggests a lack of discipline, a deficiency in one’s very essence.”
