Chapter 4
A Floury Confrontation
Antoinette decides to confront the imposter Sacry directly. This leads to a chaotic kitchen scene filled with accidental magical mishaps, hinting at Antoinette's own latent, uncontrolled magical abilities.
The scent of burnt sugar, a smell that usually signified Sacry’s joyous, albeit occasionally disastrous, baking experiments, now hung in the air like a bad omen. Antoinette, armed with a spatula and a steely resolve that was rapidly dissolving into pure, unadulterated panic, surveyed the wreckage of her own kitchen. It was a battlefield, a culinary catastrophe zone, and the sole perpetrator, the unnervingly serene Imposter Sacry, stood amidst the debris, not a speck of flour out of place on her pristine apron.
"Honestly, Antoinette," the Imposter Sacry said, her voice a melody of gentle chiding, "must you be so… vigorous with the whisk? One might think you were trying to summon a minor hurricane. And this sponge cake," she gestured with a delicate hand towards a blackened, deflated disc on the counter, "is beyond saving. Perhaps if you’d followed the recipe precisely, instead of improvising with what looked suspiciously like glitter and a dash of existential dread."
Antoinette’s jaw unhinged. Glitter? Existential dread? She’d added a pinch of cinnamon, and the glitter had been an accident, a rogue sparkle from a forgotten craft project that had somehow found its way into the sugar bowl. "Glitter?" she shrieked, her voice cracking like a poorly baked meringue. "It was cinnamon! And you! You’re the one who’s been… too perfect! You’re not Sacry! Sacry would never judge my baking with such… such sanctimonious sweetness!"
