The air in Antoinette’s kitchen crackled with a desperate energy, a stark contrast to the usual comforting aroma of baking. Yesterday’s confrontation, a chaotic ballet of flying flour and indignant squawks from a magically animated rolling pin, had left her exhilarated and utterly exhausted. But the thrill of having somewhat bested the suspiciously perfect Sacry, even if only by accident, had quickly faded, replaced by a gnawing dread. It wasn’t just a feeling; it was a cold, hard certainty that settled in the pit of her stomach like an uncooked dumpling. The Sacry she knew, her Sacry, was in trouble. "A dropped stitch," her mother murmured, her eyes fixed on the yarn, "is a missed opportunity. A tangled skein, a tangled path."
