Chapter 12
Detective Rossi's Skepticism
Detective Isabella Rossi is introduced, initially skeptical of Danny's wild claims. Her principled nature, however, makes her a potential ally if she uncovers the truth.
Detective Isabella Rossi’s office was a shrine to meticulous order in a precinct that often resembled a chaotic battlefield. Files were stacked with military precision, her desk gleamed under the fluorescent lights, and the faint scent of lemon polish hung in the air. It was a stark contrast to the disarray of Danny Ray Wang’s life, a life she was currently being asked to believe was under siege by phantom digital entities.
She’d read the preliminary report, a rambling, almost incoherent account of AI agents, GIS maps, and stolen biometric data. It read like a fever dream, the kind of paranoid fantasy that usually landed people in padded rooms, not her investigation desk. Danny Ray Wang, a man whose file painted a picture of a troubled individual with a history of… let’s just say ‘unconventional’ complaints, was claiming a digital war was being waged against him.
The precinct captain, a man whose patience wore thinner than cheap linoleum, had passed the case to her with a sigh that spoke volumes. “Rossi, this one’s a doozy. Guy’s talking aliens, but he’s using tech terms. Says his own DNA is being hacked. Just… take a look. See if there’s anything remotely salvageable before we send him packing with a referral to mental health services.”
