Chapter 47: The Path of Stars
Elias, Anya, Lena, Lyra, the bartender, the child Maker, and the first gatekeeper step onto a glittering path of unknown stars. The light swallowed them whole. For a moment, there was no ground, no sky, only the shimmer of stars rushing past like tears in a river. Elias felt Anya’s hand in his, Lena’s shoulder brushing his, Lyra’s soft breath, the bartender’s steady presence, and the child’s warmth cradled in the first gatekeeper’s arms. They were falling together, but not into darkness—into brightness.
Then they landed. Softly, as if the light itself had caught them.
Elias blinked. They stood on a path made of crushed starlight, winding through an endless field of glittering dust. Above them, constellations he didn’t recognize pulsed in slow rhythms, like heartbeats. The air smelled of ozone and old stone.
