Chapter 4: The Riftwalker
Elias, Anya, and Lena confront a creature made of shadow and void that emerges from the street rift. The creature retreats into the rift, but not before Anya senses a malevolent intelligence behind it. The mist parted. Something stepped out.
It was tall, human-shaped but wrong—like a silhouette cut from midnight and stretched too thin. Its limbs ended in points, and where its face should have been, there was only a hollow that seemed to drink the light. It moved without sound, gliding over the cracked asphalt, leaving no footprints. The streetlights flickered as it passed, bulbs dying one by one.
Lena was already moving before Elias could shout. She lunged forward, her hands sparking with that raw energy she'd barely learned to control. A bolt of static shot from her palm, striking the creature in the chest. The impact didn't throw it back—it absorbed the energy, the hollow where its face should be widening into something like a smile.
