Chapter 33
Chapter 33: The Laughter in the Door
Anya and Lena investigate the child's laughter coming from the door where Elias is trapped. Lyra's touch opens the door briefly, revealing a translucent Elias who warns them the echo is a void trick designed to make them sacrifice their future. He urges them to trust their bond instead. As the crack in the sky continues to close, the seed-tree shows them a vision of three doors, only one leading to Elias. They must choose before the crack seals forever.
The laughter hung in the air like a bell that wouldn't stop ringing. Anya held Lyra tighter, her heart slamming against her ribs. Lena had already turned, her protective energy flaring into a shield of golden light.
"It came from the door," Lena said. Not a question.
Anya nodded. The seed-tree's branch pulsed behind them, warm and familiar, but the laughter had come from somewhere else. From the obsidian door. From the void.
